This summer I got the amazing experience to participate in a mission trip. I went with a group of 10 from Crosspoint Community Church in Nashville TN and we visited a small community in Kenya, Africa. Crosspoint is helping to build a school for the elementary students of the village of Kahuria and help improve their education.

I’ve always had 2 things on my ‘bucket list’ one of them was to participate in a mission trip and another was to visit Africa. About 2 months before the trip I dug out the list I had written several years before and saw those two items on there. I decided to check out Crosspoint’s website and saw there were still spots available on the July/August trip and decided to begin the process of making it happen.

I was told before I left on my mission trip that the experience would be life changing but I didn’t know what to expect as I ventured half way around the world. I was never fearful or anxious to go but I didn’t know what to expect. What I felt from the people of Kenya and the people of Kahuria was nothing but welcoming warmth and love. The people were so happy and so full of God’s love. They literally have nothing (their schools and homes have dirt floors) but they were rich with community and faith.

The children of the community had the purest hearts and I will never forget them as long as I live. The moment we arrived they ran up to our bus singing and presenting us with handmade bouquets of wildflowers. It was a welcome I wasn’t expecting but it was so emotional and moving. We had a chance to teach at their school and build at the new school and visit people of the village in their homes. One woman’s home we visited, 80 year old Virginia, told us it was one of the happiest/proudest moments that we were able to visit her … little did she know she was blessing us with that experience much more than we were blessing her.

I am so grateful that I was able to bring my camera along on the trip and capture the feel of the trip and the people in photograph. I absolutely fell in love with this type of photography. I fell in love with capturing the portraits of these beautiful people. Please enjoy some of the images below.

Lindsey and Craig contacted me because they specifically wanted to shoot their engagement session at Cheekwood Mansion (where they had had one of their first dates) and they had seen a recent session that I had done at Cheekwood. They booked the session for after Cheekwood had closed for the day so we had the place to ourselves to enjoy all of the amazingly gorgeous locations on the Cheekwood property. By far one of my favorite locations in Nashville. Please enjoy Lindsey and Craig’s engagement session.

I shot Elizabeth and Williams engagement session at Elington Agricultural Center a couple weeks ago. The couple had just gotten engaged a few days before our session and they wanted to do an engagement session before Elizabeth headed home to Washington state and William (who is stationed at Ft. Campbell) gets deployed next month. This couple is absolutely adorable and so so sweet. They brought balloons to the session and the balloons made the cutest props. We got some great weather and some really pretty late summer sun for this engagement session.

Jeff and Becky came to Nashville from out of state on a songwriting/recording trip for Jeff. While they were in town they booked a photo session with me to get some portraits of the two of them together. We met up at Harlinsdale Farm in Franklin, TN to shoot. At the session they told me the story about how they met and had known each other so many years and it never quite worked out for them as a couple at those times until one day it did work out for them. The way they feel about each other is evident in the way they tell their story, the way they look at each other, the way they come across in photo … clearly there is a lot of love there!! I asked Jeff to write me an email so I could get the details of their story to include in my blog post. After I read his email I knew I couldn’t retell their story as well as him so I have copied it in his words into the post. Some love stories take time and some things are worth the wait.

I first met Lindsey around this time last year when she had booked me to do a photo shoot for her after she had seen some images I had done with some other Beachbody coaches during the 2015 Beachbody Coach Summit held in Nashville (She is a Beachbody coach!!) . We clicked right away and Lindsey is such a sweetheart and was so fun to work with! Over the past year I have done several sessions with Lindsey and a few with Lindsey and her boyfriend Dan (also a total sweetheart!). Lindsey just relocated from Nashville back up to Rhode Island, where she is originally from. It has been so fun to get to know Lindsey and we got to squeeze in one last shoot before she left. She needed some new images for some new projects she is working on (this girl is one busy bee and is always traveling to cool places ya’ll).

For this shoot Lindsey had the idea to start with a location in the Gulch that has a beautiful mural of wings painted by artist Kelsey Montague. It was neat to get up close to the mural and get a few different creative angles. The wings have so much detail. So pretty! We then moved to a location in Belle Meade for the rest of the session. Nashville was its usual August weather … humid and hot … but Lindsey rocked the session … with flawless wavy hair too!! Check out the fun images we took below.
